![]() MP418SP, the most popular MPro Subwoofer from JBL Professional, is power personified, as it uses a dual-channel amplifier to harness the output in different external system formulations. The self-powered Subwoofer is designed for use with either passive (such as MP418S) or powered satellite speakers.
The MP418SP is an 18-inch powered Subwoofer conceived for portability and performance. Three-inch casters fitted on the rear side of the Sub facilitate easy movement, whereas reinforced steel carry handles are also provided for easy handling of the mammoth device.
The Subwoofer is highly rated for its power capacity, as it can withstand continuous power supply of 600 watts without burning out. Its power is concealed in an 18-mm reinforced plywood cage coated with DuraFlex and shielded by a metallic, honeycomb-like steel grill. The enclosure comforts the components and gives the MPro its rugged look. The inherent structure allows JBL to employ the Vented Gap Cooling technology in the low frequency transducer, so that the loss of output quality resulting from power compression is greatly minimized and performance is never compromised. A crown dual-amplifier is integrated into the Subwoofer to fork out enormous power across the two channels (internal and external), amplifying the input source into 660 watts RMS per channel (with 4 ohms) or 400 watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms. The internal channel is meant for the woofer, but the external channel can be used for power amplification in a "Sub and Satellite" configuration or a "Sub and Sub" configuration. The "Sub and Satellite" configuration allows MP418SP to be used as a powered device with a full range passive speaker, resulting in a two-piece system on a single external channel. On the other hand, "Sub and Sub" configuration allows using the passive Sub (MP418S) on the external amplifier. The powered satellite speakers or an external amplifier can be sourced using separate high-passed line outputs. When paired with the MP418S, the combination forms a dual 18-inch configuration with a power capacity of 1,320 watts. In such a configuration, MP418S acts as a slave to the powered Subwoofer.
